Select plant and fruit acids are used to peel the skin, aiding in an even epidermis renewal and exfoliation. Chemical peels are designed to remove the outermost layers of skin (most of which are dead and ready to shed), by loosening the bonds between cells. Once the inter- cellular cement bonds are broken the dead keratin skin cells can be shed more effectly and rapidly. This process results in revealing a brighter, smoother, more youthful skin. Chemical peels increase collagen and elastic production, soften lines wrinkles, fade spots and stains, as well as help to clear cystic acne breakout. Common formulas that vary in strength are applied to the face and or neck and left on for over five minutes. Some chemical peels can even be layered for increased potency. Some of the most commonly used acid peels used are: lactic acid, salicylic, glycolic, malic, mandelic acids and more. Post care includes sunscreens, hydrating serums, corrective creams. Mild downtime may also be best, for more aggressive deeper chemical peeling.
